Firsts
September 2018
Firsts is a collection of monologues accompanied by Overture, a musical variety act; performed 28th & 29th September 2018 at DINA.

Firsts is an original play written by Michael Hudson initially performed as part of Thestival 2015, an original writing theatre festival by Sheffield Hallam Theatre Society. It has since been amended and updated and Michael is excited to see the play being brought back to the stage. The monologues are all themed around the ‘first’ of something. Emphasising that whether a big moment or a passing memory, the first occurrence of something can be important to the way we live, relate to others and develop as people. The monologues span a range of topics and emotions including, grief, loneliness, love, nostalgia, and embarrassment. Join Firsts in a rollercoaster of hurt and houmour, struggle and strength for a moving and challenging piece for the performers involved.
Overture is a compilation of songs from the stages of the West End and Broadway. Also themed around ‘firsts’, the set list will be an anthology of solos, duets and group numbers that represent the first song in a show, first appearance of a character, first song to win different awards and more.

Michael’s wonderful honest, empathic and natural writing that perfectly captured the emotions of the situations, and those they affected, combined with the superb acting of the cast
Last Night I Dreamt
As an audience member I left DINA emotional, thoughtful, reassured that I’m not alone, upbeat and with the desire moving forward to remember more of my future firsts and watch even more musicals.
