The only way to eat toast is Butter Side Up. Right? Named after an absurd joke in Seussical the Muscial on the correct way to eat toast, Butter Side Up Theatre Company was founded in Sheffield in 2016, named to showcase the fun and frivolity that is to be had by being part of the company.
Founders Becky Cleary and Michael Hudson met in the Drama society and Sheffield Hallam University in 2011 and went on to perform together in plays, musicals and showcases for several years including starring together in a 2013 production of Seussical. Co-founder Lucy Smith-Jones joined the society in 2014, having made short films with both Cleary and Hudson.
Following university, they had a deep passion for performing arts and wanted to create a group in Sheffield where everyone could pursue a passion for performance, even if not as a full-time career.
