Butter Side Up
Established in 2016, Butter Side Up Theatre Company prides itself on being an amateur performing arts group that welcomes everyone.
Since day one, we've offered members the chance to perform, as well as to try their hand at backstage work, directing, writing, film-making, and also the chance to develop skills in a low-pressure environment.
Welcoming members from all walks of life from across Sheffield, Leeds, Derbyshire and more, BSU specialises in original works, comedy collaborations, new takes & adaptations, and championing the works and talents of the LGBTQ+ community.
Founding members; Becky Cleary, Michael Hudson, and Lucy Smith Jones, met at Sheffield Hallam University. Through a combined love of theatre and film, the three of them worked together many times and following graduation wanted to create a group in Sheffield where everyone could pursue a passion for performance, even if not as a full-time career.
Named after an absurd joke in 'Seussical the Musical' on the correct way to eat toast, the founders wanted to let everyone know the fun and frivolity that comes from being part of Butter Side Up Theatre Company.
Meet the Committee
Butter Side Up Theatre Company is completely volunteer-led. We have a superb team of people who work hard to make sure every rehearsal, showcase and performance goes ahead and you can look at their gorgeous faces below.
